Laser scattering belongs to an important branch of light scattering, which is characterized by the use of lasers as light sources. The greatest advantages of lasers are their extremely high brightness, small divergence angle, and excellent coherence. The high brightness makes the laser scattering signal much higher than other types of scattering techniques; the small divergence angle makes laser scattering ideal for small-angle scattering studies, maximizing the sensitivity of the technique to surface profiles and shape distributions; and the excellent coherence makes it easy to apply the technique to dynamical studies, i.e., dynamic light scattering.
